This Lodge was established on June 8th 1969.
Born in Budapest, Hungary, Victor Basch studied German, specialising in poetry and philosophy and, after in-depth work on Friedrich von Schiller, was awarded the first ever chair in aesthetics in a French university.
The Dreyfus affair proved a catalyst for his political career, which led him to become President of the Ligue des Droits de l’Homme.
He opposed the Munich agreements, and was an activist for the French section of the Workers' International, fervently standing up for universalism.
He and his wife Ilona were murdered on 10th January 1944 in the Ain département, after being arrested by a militia.
