France - The Golda Meir Lodge in Nice Print E-mail

The Lodge was established in July 1985.

Golda Meyerson was born in Kiev (Ukraine) in 1898 and, as Golda Meir, became known as The Grandmother of Israel.

As director of the Political Department of the Jewish Agency, she secretly met with King Abdullah of Transjordan.

Leader of the Israeli Labour Movement, she had high profile roles as Israeli Ambassador to Moscow, Israeli Foreign Minister, and from 1969 to 1974, Prime Minister of Israel.

It was for Golda Meir that the nickname "Iron Lady" was first coined.
