France - The France Lodge in Paris PDF Print E-mail

The first Lodge in France was founded in 1932 by the President of the First Lodge of England, who is still its patron.

Various well-known Presidents have led the France Lodge, including two Presidents of B’nai B’rith France, Jean-Pierre Bloch and Yves Kamami.

This lodge played a vital role in laying the groundwork for Pope John XXIII's meeting with Jules Isaac at the Vatican, which prompted the Pope to set up the Commission for Relations between Catholics and Jews, led by Cardinal Béa.

This led to Vatican II, where the concept of Jews as rejected or accursed by God and responsible for death of Christ removed from the catechism.

Finally, the France Lodge is involved in defending Israel's profile in Universities, from the post-1968 years, right up to 2000-2001, in putting out a consistent message as regards the teaching of hatred in Palestinian school text books, and making sure this message was heard at all levels, in politics, in the media, in schools and the voluntary sector.
