France - The René Hirschler Lodge in Strasbourg PDF Print E-mail
This Lodge was established in 1977.

René Hirschler was born in Marseilles in 1905, and was Rabbi of Mulhouse from 1927 to 1938 and Chief Rabbi of Strasbourg and the Lower Rhine in 1938-1939.

He was an army chaplain and chaplain in the internship camps under German occupation, before being arrested by the Gestapo in 1943. His wife died in the gas chambers and he was deported and beaten to death by guard shortly before liberation.
