The Lodge was established in 1986.
Hannah Szenes was born in Budapest in 1921 and emigrated to Palestine in 1939, where she studied at Nahalal Agricultural School. She stayed in the Sdot Yam kibbutz, where she wrote many poems.
In 1942, she joined a parachute unit of the Haganah, and organised Jewish resistance.
In March 1944, she was parachuted into Yugoslavia, crossed the Hungarian border and was arrested by the local police, tortured and sentenced to death.
She was executed by firing squad in Budapest prison on 7th November 1944.
Her body was repatriated to Israel in 1950, where she rests at Mount Herzl.
Hannah Szenes was the sister of the author Bela Szenes.
