France - The Yonathan Natanyahou Lodge in Vitry PDF Print E-mail

This Lodge was established in 1980, and its Articles of Association were filed with the Prefecture in February 1981.

Colonel Jonathan Natanyahu led the Israeli operation in Entebbe, to free passengers held hostage by terrorists in the Air France Airbus. He was killed by a bullet to the heart.

The Entebbe Operation was launched on 3rd July 1976. Defence Minister Shimon Peres came in person to greet the Tzahal soldiers as they climbed the steps into the Hercules transport plane.

Four thousand kilometres away, the unit was involved in one of the most daring missions in military history, freeing the passengers from an Air France plane, hijacked and held in Entebbe, Uganda.

At the end of the Operation, Commander Dan Shomron, announced its successful outcome, but also had to give the sad news that Jonathan Netanyahu had fallen victim.

Son of a historian, Jonathan Netanyahu had a strapping, statuesque figure. He studied philosophy, and wrote poetry in his spare time. He is considered a hero of modern Israel.

Jonathan's elder brother, Binyamin Netanyahu has held several ministerial posts, including Prime Minister of the State of Israel.
