News about the European Day of Jewish Culture...in the United Kingdom PDF Print E-mail

In the United Kingdom, the European Day of Jewish Culture 2006 was an occasion to commemorate the 350th anniversary of the resettlement of the Jews in England.

The event was extended to a fortnight covering three Sundays (3rd, 10th and 17th September) and included the Civic Trust national Heritage Open Days from 7th-10th September and special events in the following week.

It culminated in a celebratory “Jewish Day” in London's Trafalgar Square on 17th September which was organised by Jewish Culture UK and the Office of the Mayor of London.

The final result is impressive: 35 000 visitors took part in the 134 activities organised in 25 cities.
