Our project for the European Day of Jewish Culture 2007 was presented in Strasbourg in July, in the presence of Claude Bloch, Jean Pierre Lambert and Gilbert and Lilliane Nerson.
Upon our return to Antwerp, we registered for the contest organised by the Flemish Commission for the Preservation of Monuments, an organisation that is part of the Flemish Government. A jury composed of several regional deputy burgomasters and specialists in tourism met to reward the best cultural organisations for their projects and realisations for the Flanders Heritage.
The Mala Zimetbaum Lodge of Antwerp presented its project on Jewish Cultural Heritage in Flanders relating to Jewish historical and religious monuments. The Lodge was successful in winning the 4th prize among 20 of the best organisations in Flanders, all volunteers. This year, we will try to do better, and are already very pleased that our aims are being reached.
The place and importance of Jewish culture in the Flanders Heritage is essential and has succeeded to be recognized by the Flemish Government.
