On Thursday, November 26, we were profoundly saddened to learn of the passing of Pnina Bor, z"l, former President of B`nai B`rith Israel (1991-1999), and former International Vice President from B’nai B’rith Israel. In this term, she had been serving as a Special Advisor to Moishe Smith, as she had for Presidents Joel S. Kaplan and Richard D. Heideman, and she served as a Special Assistant to Tommy Baer.
B’nai B’rith Israel Representative to the Board of Governors Yoram Luft added that Pnina Bor held other important roles in the organization, and that she was “a unique person: energetic, smart, colorful, and relentless in her work on behalf of BB in Israel and abroad. She raised funds from many organizations in Israel and the Diaspora, investing a great deal of her time and money. Many of you have been fortunate enough to know her and participate in events she organized.”
Pnina Bor joined B’nai B’rith in 1954 and truly devoted much of her life to this organization, but was also a leader in numerous others in Jewish communal life and Zionism, and organizations supporting music, education, medical advances, Israel’s armed forces and tourism. Indeed, she inspired many with her leadership by example, especially women, throughout the B’nai B’rith global community having been the first woman to serve as President of B’nai B’rith Israel and the first woman to be elected an International Vice President. Her enthusiasm for B’nai B’rith and her pride in the State of Israel knew no bounds.
Pnina Bor lost her husband, Abraham Bor, a cellist, earlier this year. She left two sons Noam Bor and Eyal Bor two daughters Noga Katz and Anat Engel.
May her memory always be for a blessing.
