Our President, Brother Richard Fisher, has received the prestigious Jewish Care Award for 2009 in honour of his magnificent work over many years in helping people in desperate need. Members of the Lodge are proud that his achievements in caring for others has been so deservedly recognised and congratulate him most warmly.
Bros. President also celebrated his 90th birthday on September 10th and the Lodge took pleasure in arranging a special evening on September 9th in recognition of his work for B’nai B’rith over the past 45 years and to wish him many more years to come.
On November 25th, the Lodge initiated 10 new members at its Festive Dinner where an audience of nearly 100 members and friends also heard a most illuminating account of the work of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, delivered by its Vice-President, John Arkush.
The Leo Baeck Lodge Trust Fund was able to make the following major donations during the last quarter of 2009:
- Hadassa Hospital, Jerusalem, for research into Geriatric Medicine: £250,000
- Re’uth Hospital, Israel, towards a new wing at its Tel Aviv Centre: £250,000
- Chai Cancer Care, UK, towards building extension in London: £250,00
The above are additional to our regular annual donations towards projects in the UK, in Eastern Europe and Israel.
