United Kingdom - The Thames Lodge in London |
The Thames Lodge was founded in 1993 in South London by 20 founder members.
The Lodge was created because the other lodges south of the river Thames in London were closing because their members were becoming elderly.
At the time most of our founder members were about forty years old.
Some of us had parents who had been B’nai B’rith members.
We called ourselves “Thames” because a lot of us live near the river, which represents London.
The River Thames is 215 miles long, flowing from its source in the Cotswolds Hills, down to the East, through Oxford, the Chiltern Hills, before opening out as it flows downstream to London.
The Thames estuary is a major shipping route.
The river is tidal over a long stretch, reaching upstream beyond London.
