B'nai B'rith co-hosts the Jerusalem Day at the European Parliament

Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Eva Ortiz (Spain, EPP), MEP Hannu Takkula (Finland, ALDE), MEP Ioan Enciu (Romania, Socialist), B’nai B’rith and the European Jewish Community Centre (EJCC) co-hosted on Wednesday, 30th May the celebration of Jerusalem Day in the European Parliament in Brussels. The event was attended by more than 100 people from the European Parliament and from several NGO’s.


Speeches by the Vice-President of the European Parliament, MEP Alejo Vidal-Quadras (Spain, EPP) and the Israeli Minister without portfolio, Mr. Yossi Peled were the main features of the evening. The  former Polish President, Mr. Aleksander Kwasniewski, together with other members of the European Parliament, was among the guests, as well as members of staff and civil servants.

Nuno Wahnon Martins, Director of European Union Affairs at the Brussels Office, addressed the guests on behalf of B’nai B’rith. He spoke of the influence of Jerusalem in the European political world. Experiencing a celebration such as this in the heart of the European Union is thanks to the existence of Friends of Israel in the European Parliament.

This was the second time that B’nai B’rith has co-hosted the event in the European Parliament with the other organisations and with the main organiser, MEP Hannu Takkula.
