It is a great honor for our organization to award Dr. Mathias Doepfner with the BBE Award of Merit. The gala will take place in the framework of the BBE Convention in June 2014.

The gala itself will take place on 10 June 2014

Dr. Doepfner is a great supporter of the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
He says about himself in an interview in the German magazine „Der Spiegel“ of 19 June 2006:

"I'm a non-Jewish Zionist. Israel is a country whose existence must be secured." He further says: "For me, freedom is the most important prerequisite for a humane society. My politicization is characterized by the Holocaust as a negative starting point. The shock of my childhood was the images and tales from this incomparable crime. The most important consequence of this was for me is the freedom of thought, freedom of the individual and to secure freedom of action."

The person Axel Springer was and his publishing house is a great friend of Israel. With Dr. Doepfner an outstanding personality will be awarded who is always committed and supportive to the State of Israel.

Dr. Mathias Doepfner

Dr Mathias Doepfner, born 1963, studied musicology, German and theatrical arts in Frankfurt and Boston. He started his career as a journalist at the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" in 1982. He was director of a PR agency from 1988 to 1990. In 1992 he worked on the staff of the international director of the Gruner + Jahr publishing com-pany in Paris and later became an assistant to the CEO of Gruner + Jahr in Hamburg. He then held further positions in journalism as editor-in-chief of "Wochenpost" in Berlin (1994-1996) and "Hamburger Morgenpost" (1996-1998). He has been with Axel Springer SE since 1998. Initially as editor-in-chief of Die Welt. Dr Mathias Doepfner became the member of the Executive Board responsible for the Multimedia Division in July 2000 and took charge of the Newspapers Division as well in October 2000. He has been CEO of the Axel Springer SE since January 2002.
