Since the last few weeks, incendiary kites and ballons with flammable material and explosive devices have been launched from Gaza to communities near the border, damaging fields and kibbutzim. They have sparked fires across thousands of acres. Millions of shekels are already needed to repair the damages.

Damages are not only material. Natural reserves have been affected by the fires, and the wildlife suffered from it. Furthermore, even if there are no direct casualties, "there has been an increase in asthma attacks in children," says Dr. Nataly Shveydel, director of a hospital near the Gaza border.

B'nai B'rith Europe President Serge Dahan condemns this criminal fires and invites every B'nai B'rith member to help Israelis by donating to Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael, the Jewish National Fund and largest Israeli green organisation.

B'nai B'rith Europe President Serge Dahan congratulates B'nai B'rith France which has already launched a fund relief campaign and encourages all Lodges to engage in this campaign.

B'nai B'rith Europe attended the conference "The Power and Perils of Propaganda" on Wednesday, 27th of June, at the European Parliament. The conference, hosted by the Socialists Group (S&D), included MEPs Tanja Fajon, Julie Ward and Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar, Vice-chair of the Working Group on Antisemitism, as well as representatives from public authorities and non-governmental organisations.

The event aimed to raise awareness about modern populism, twisting information, notably with hate speech, and how it can be countered. The code of conduct the European Commission concluded with major Internet companies, such as social media Facebook and Twitter, was mentioned as an achievement to help increase the prohibition of hateful content.
On a national level, speakers also talked how national public authorities could deal with them, as one answer lies within the legislative power.

The conference concluded with the importance of professional media, and drawing the line between freedom of speech and hate speech.

More than 30 tomb stones were knocked down and broken in a Jewish cemetery in Manchester, England. These acts of vandalism occurred after two other reports of similar degradations on 22 tombs on May 7th and 14th.

"This is a revolting act of anti-semitism which we take very seriously. I believe that it was a deliberated and targeted attack, and there is no place for such an odious behaviour in our communities", declared the representative of the police Wasim Chaudhry.

B'nai B'rith Europe denounces this antisemitic action et demands from the government of the United Kingdom that everything should be done as soon as possible in order to arrest the authors of this odious act and judge them according to the horror of their action.

More than ever, the mobilisation and the attention of the governments must reflect the needed actions against the spread of antisemitic hate speech and the increase of antisemitic acts towards the Jewish people in Europe.

B'nai B'rith Europe President Serge Dahan, outraged, condemns with anger and emotion this horrendous acte and insult to the memory. President Dahan shares a fraternal though and supports the families who come to mourn on their friends and relatives' tomb stones in the Jewish cemetery of Urmston.

B'nai B'rith Europe strongly condemns the revisionist exhibition funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria

bu

B'nai B'rith Bulgaria, member of B'nai B'rith Europe is seriously concerned about the fact that the exhibition "The Country of the Rescued Jews" continues to tour in different cities and towns in Bulgaria.
This exhibition, funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria, has a clear revisionist character and is an insult to the memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

B'nai B'rith Bulgaria strongly protests against the participation of senior government officials in the dissemination of revisionist propaganda, an act endangering the future admission of Bulgaria as a full member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

"These activities are not just a dissemination of revisionist propaganda, but events which are actively planned by some leaders of the ruling coalition government." said Solomon Bali, Vice President of B'nai B'rith Europe. 'The same people have been preaching anti-Semitism and xenophobia for years. All these revisionist efforts work against the authority of Bulgaria and against the truth about the Holocaust in our country, which is well known from the historical documents kept in the archives of Bulgaria, the State of Israel, the European countries, as well as in the archives of the United States of America".

Serge Dahan, President of B'nai B'rith Europe recalls we cannot rewrite history nor hide the truth. Serge Dahan supports the protest of B'nai B'rith Bulgaria and requests the Bulgarian government to take necessary measures to preserve the memory of the holocaust and its teachings for future generations.
