Light a memorial candle for Yom HaShoah in memory of the 6,000,000 Jews murdered by the Third German Reich

Alan Miller, President BBUK

«The Shoah, along with the World Wars of the 20th century, is now passing into history.

Within Bnai Brith UK, we have been making efforts to "highlight" the Shoah in a very particular way.

This has been to encourage each of us to light a memorial candle on the eve of Yom HaShoah in memory of the 6,000,000 Jews murdered by the German Third Reich.

We were recently approached by a committee,The Yellow Candle Programme, that exists solely to promote continual Holocaust remembrance.

The programme simply involves supplying everyone with a Yarzheit candle, to be lit on the eve of Yom HaShoah. This year that falls on the evening of April 11.

Through the generosity of an anonymous contributor, the candles are supplied for free.

Our National Executive has been keen to see BBUK play its part. To this end, each lodge will be supplied with an appropriate number of candles to distribute to the members.

It is also to be hoped that children and grandchildren will be made aware and will be encouraged to participate.

Never Again means Never Again. That can only have a meaning if newer and future generations will actually be aware that we must never forget to remember the 6,000,000.

I hope and trust that we have your full co-operation.

Best regards.

Alan Miller, President BBUK
