Tikun Olam, May 25 - Communicated by the Foreign Ministry Spokesman - Israel sends humanitarian aid to Chinese earthquake victims - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated the aid effort, funded by Israel Corporation and philanthropists from Los Angeles, to bring medical equipment, clothing, tents and water purification kits from Israel to earthquake victims in China.

On Sunday, May 25, 2008, an Israeli plane took off for the city of Chengdu with humanitarian aid for victims of the earthquake that struck the Sichuan province in southwestern China last week.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which coordinated the aid effort, collected more than one and a half million dollars, a million of which were donated by Israel Corporation, headed by Idan Ofer, and its subsidiaries, and half a million by Jewish philanthropists Diane and Gilford Glazer, through the United Israel Appeal.

May 06, 2008 - The Jerusalem Post - NGO Monitor in the media - 60 years on the map, By Gerald M. Steinberg - [Excerpts:] - "Israel's major accomplishment in 60 years of independence is surviving - staying on the map as a sovereign state, with equal status among the nations of the world."

"[…]the false claims of "war crimes" and "collective punishment" are used constantly to demonize Israel in the United Nations and by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that exploit the rhetoric of morality to demonize Israel. This was also the main objective of the infamous 2001 Durban Conference, and the planned 2009 Review Conference, to be led by Iran, Libya and Cuba."

"THE DELEGITIMATION and demonization of Zionism, and the singling out of Israel for special treatment, while erasing the context of Palestinian terrorism and other violent attacks, have become the modern form of anti-Semitism."

ISRAEL

BBI - Outrageous Terror Attack in Israel as President Bush addresses Leaders in Honor of Israel's 60th Anniversar (Jerusalem, May 14, 2008) - The May 14 terror attack on the Israeli city of Ashkelon, on the same day as President Bush made a speech to honor Israel’s 60thanniversary, demonstrates the brazenness of Israel’s enemies.

The rocket was fired from Gaza and hit a shopping mall in Ashkelon, injuring at least 14 people. The western Negev, especially Sderot, and now Ashkelon, has been under constant rocket attack for years.
“An attack while the president of the United States is in Jerusalem meeting with Israel’s leaders only points to the violent depravity that characterizes the terrorists who engage in this activity,” said B’nai B’rith International (BBI) President Moishe Smith.

Smith and BBI Executive Vice President Daniel S. Mariaschin attended the president’s speech in Jerusalem at the Israel Conference Center at the exclusive “Facing Tomorrow” conference organized by Israeli President Shimon Peres in honor of Israel’s 60th anniversary.  Also attending the conference were Haim Katz, chairman of the B’nai B’rith World Center in Jerusalem; Alan Schneider, director of the B’nai B’rith World Center; and Frank Dimant, executive director of B’nai B’rith Canada.
