... Written by Jose Iacobescu, 19 September 2011. ... Mr. Teodor Baconschi, Romania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, informs a delegation of representatives of the country’s major Jewish organisations that Romania will abstain in the vote at the United Nations on the unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state.
Leading personalities of Romania’s Jewish population called on the Minister on Friday, 16th September. They were: - Dr. Aurel Vainer, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities,
- Jose Iacobescou, President of B’nai B’rith in Romania,
- Liviu Beris, President of the Association of Romanian Jewish Victims of the Holocaust,
- Tiberiu Roth, President of the Zionist Association,
- Marco Katz, Director of MCA, Centre for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism,
- Dr. Nasty Vladoiu, President of the Romania-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Foreign Minister emphasised the need to find a negotiated settlement if the two states are to live together in peace. Romania supports a negotiated solution. This was clearly stated during his visit to Ramallah and during Prime Minister Netanyahu’s visit to Bucharest. |
