France - The Kadima-Maimonide Lodge in Paris PDF Print E-mail

The current Lodge was born out of the merger of the Rueil-Malmaison and Saint-Germain en Laye Lodges in 2001.

Founding President, Jean-Claude Amouyal selected the name Kadima to illustrate his desire to move forward.

Maimonides was born in 1135 in Cordoba, Spain.

He was a major authority on the Talmud, an astronomer, mathematician and doctor.

When the Almohades came to power, his family left for Fes, Morocco, then, after persecution, for Egypt (Alexandria and Cairo).

Maimonides wrote a large number of works, both as a renowned doctor and a community leader. The works, the best-known of which are his Guide for the Perplexed and Mishneh Torah, were later the subject of controversy.

He died in Cairo in 1204 and was buried in Tiberias.
