Slovakia - The Tolerancia Lodge in Bratislava |
The Lodge was established after the 1989 Velvet Revolution.
Before the Second World War, there was a Lodge in Bratislava, the Fidesz Lodge.
Members wondered whether to take the former Lodge's name.
Another possibility for the Lodge name was "Danubia" (referring to the River Danube). However, the decision was taken to name the Lodge Tolerancia, the Slovak word for Tolerance, which is one of the principles of B’nai B’rith.
The name is very simple, but in the view of Jewish people, it is a very challenging principle. The name was unanimously accepted because they lived in a non democratic system, where Jews felt left out of things, excluded from Society.
