Latvia - The Riga Lodge in Riga

The Lodge was founded on 16th June 1998 by a group of people working for the Jewish Community in Riga with the following goals:

1. Develop social and medical care for the members of the Jewish Community.
2. Follow the media and other fields and fight anti-Semitism.
3. Educate the members of the Jewish Community on Jewish life throughout the world.

The Lodge was named the “Riga” Lodge because Riga is the capital of Latvia and because most of the members of the Lodge are living and working in Riga.

In 2000 – 2002, with the support of Brother Bent Melchior, the Dutch Government and B’nai B’rith Europe, new medical technologies in Urology, Gynecology, Endoscopy, Ophthalmology and Stomatology fields were implemented in the Jewish Hospital of Riga. This gave the medical staff the opportunity to modernize its medical equipment and optimize its medical care to the members of the Jewish Community who can be taken care of for free.

Together with Brother Alex Faiman they organized daily provision of food and dentist care for the poor members of the Jewish Community in Riga.
