We have just been informed that Brother Raymond Levy passed away late Thursday evening February 9th at the age of 90 at the Frankfurt Jewish old age home after a long and serious illness. Brother Raymond Levy was an eminent member of B'nai B'rith, not only in his Lodge, the Frankfurt Schöndstädt Lodge, where he served 4 mandates as President, from 1976 to 1979, from 1983 to 1987, from 1993 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2002, but also as a member of the Executive Committee of District 19-Continental Europe during the Presidency of Chief Rabbi Bent Melchior.

B’nai B’rith International letter to German Foreign Minister expresses disappointment over upgrade of Palestinian Mission in Berlin

Washington, D.C., Feb. 7, 2012: B’nai B’rith International sent a letter to German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle expressing “deep concern over the German government’s decision to upgrade the Palestinian diplomatic presence in Berlin from a delegation to a mission headed by an ambassador,” and asked the German government to reconsider its decision.

Washington, January 27, 2012: B’nai B’rith International sent a letter to organizers of the Deutscher Medienpreis (German media prize) cautioning that the Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb, a Palestinian pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Christmas Church in Bethlehem, should be reconsidered as a recipient of the 2011 prize, which is scheduled to be awarded Feb. 24 in Germany. Raheb has a longstanding reputation for promoting anti-Israel theology and narratives.
