Following the repeated attacks from the Gaza Strip against Israeli civilian targets on the 29th of May 2018, B’nai B’rith Europe President Serge Dahan strongly condemns these terrorist acts. This is the heaviest barrage of mortar shells in years.

On the morning of Tuesday, 29th May of 2018, around thirty missiles were launched on the Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Several civilian buildings have suffered damage, including a kindergarten, less than one hour before the children were supposed to arrive, according to an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesperson.

Later in the evening, three Israeli soldiers were injured due to a new barrage of rockets. In total, one hundred missiles have been fired from the Gaza Strip. The residents living in the South of Israel have been asked to stay in a range of shelters, because of the threat of reprisals.

Both Hamas and Islamic Jihad organisations claimed responsibility, which is an unusual statement for a barrier of rockets. The IDF stated that some rockets were Iranian-made.

As a response, Israeli missiles were launched later on Tuesday to destroy infrastructures used by the armed factions in the Gaza Strip, including a tunnel going under the border, without any human loss.

The permanent representatives of the US and Israel to the United Nations asked the Security Council to meet in order to condemn these attacks. The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs also issued a statement, asking for the immediate end of Palestinian attacks.

B’nai B’rith Europe President Serge Dahan congratulates the European, American and Israeli diplomatic representatives, and condemns these terrorist acts, prone to destablising the region.
